Jonathan's right, rev matching can cost you more fuel.

I love my Manual, but the only problem I have seen so far is when people are in a hurry when the light turns green and near about push you out of the way... I hate to shift at 3500 RPMs, but some time I just have to... My papa always told me to shift as low as I could without bogging the motor down.

Manuel Transmissions

I can use my transmission to come down a mountain and almost never touch my brake pedal. as long as your RPMs arent too high it wont hurt your clutch pad.

Coasting to save gas
by Jean»6/1/2011
When I see the red light ahead, I shift my manual car into neutral and coast until I need to brake. This practice gets me about 2 extra mpg in town, relevant in these high gas price days.

yes you can slow down with a manual ,but if you have any mechanical ability i strongly recomend that you make sure your emergency brake functions properly ( they are mechanicly linked and seperate from the mastercylinder ) to stop your car in the case of brake failure .....i'm just sayin !!
